DJ Max Portable Black Square Limited Edition + DJ Max Technika Ultimate Collection
Special New Year’s Eve delivery from the mailman! I’m a huge fan of the DJ Max Portable series on PSP, made by a Korean company called Pentavision. It’s a rhythm game series similar to Beatmania and has great soundtracks and slick presentation. I own the Limited Edition prints of DJ Max Portable 1 and 2, both limited to 1,000 copies each. With the newest installment in the series (titled Black Square), Pentavision outdid themselves again and produced a stellar Quattra Limited Edition. This set is again limited to a scarce 1k run. Being the fanatic that I am, I made sure to reserve one the moment Play-Asia started accepting pre-orders.
The set comes in a sturdy square box which closes with a magnetic seal and includes: the game, a 4 CD soundtrack, artbook, speakers, a Happy New Year’s card, a bandanna, a Pentavision “Platinum Crew” membership, and a “Son of Sun” special gift, which as far as I can tell is just a small pot to grow the included plant seeds. I’m not familiar with “Son of Sun” nor its significance, but this probably the most bizarre gift I’ve ever seen come with a game. All I know is that “Son of Sun” is one of the songs in the game.
Speaking of speakers, I’m glad I wasn’t expecting much because they turned out to be plastic speakers! This is the first time I’ve seen something like this and I found them very amusing. They come flat in one of the boxes and take about 30 seconds to assemble into a gawky, slightly bemused set of speakers.
Haha, they look so ridiculous. The plastic speakers sound surprisingly good, considering what they are, but the PSP’s onboard speakers actually sound better (ouch…)
Also in my Play-Asia order came a separate DJ Max Technika soundtrack set. Good stuff all around. I’m always pleased with Pentavision’s products.
